South Korea: 2027 Minimum Wage Set at 10,700 Won/Hour

The Minimum Wage Commission decided the 2027 minimum wage at 10,700 won/hour ($7.20) at its 14th plenary session on 14 July 2026 – a 3.7% increase from 2026’s 10,320 won. Employer proposal won 17-11 vote. Monthly equivalent 2,236,300 won based on 209 hours. MOEL formal announcement due by 5 August 2026. Effective 1 January 2027.

  • South Korea’s 2027 minimum wage has been decided at 10,700 KRW/hour ($7.20), a 3.7% increase from the 2026 rate of 10,320 KRW. The Minimum Wage Commission finalized the rate at its 14th plenary session on 14 July 2026 after eight hours of talks; the employer proposal defeated the labor proposal 17 votes to 11. The final gap between labor (10,730 won) and business (10,700 won) was just 30 won. Monthly equivalent based on the standard 40-hour week (209 hours/month): 2,236,300 KRW ($1,500).
  • The rate applies uniformly across all industries, employment types, and nationalities. The Minister of Employment and Labor must formally announce the rate by 5 August 2026 after reviewing any objections; effective 1 January 2027. Note: probationary workers on 1+ year contracts may be paid below the minimum during the first three months for non-simple-labor roles.
