Mercans Modern Slavery Statement

Mercans is committed to conducting its business ethically and responsibly, upholding the highest standards of integrity, and ensuring that modern slavery is not present in our operations or supply chains.

Mercans’ approach to modern slavery

Modern Slavery

Modern slavery is a term used to describe various forms of exploitation, such as human trafficking, forced labor, debt bondage, and other types of slavery-like practices. We recognize that modern slavery is a global issue that affects millions of people and is an unacceptable violation of human rights.

We have implemented the following measures to prevent and mitigate the risk of modern slavery in our business.

Supplier due diligence:

We conduct due diligence on all our suppliers to assess their compliance with our ethical standards and values. Our due diligence process includes a risk assessment based on factors such as location, industry, and previous violations related to modern slavery. We require our suppliers to comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct, which includes provisions related to modern slavery. We also include modern slavery clauses in our contracts to ensure that our suppliers are aware of our expectations and are held accountable for any violations.

KPI: Supplier compliance rate – Measure the percentage of suppliers that comply with Mercans’ Supplier Code of Conduct and modern slavery requirements.

Employee awareness:

We provide training and awareness to our employees to recognize and report any signs of modern slavery. We encourage our employees to speak up if they have any concerns related to modern slavery or other ethical issues. We also provide a mechanism for reporting ethical concerns anonymously through our Ethics Hotline, which is available to all employees and stakeholders.

KPI: Employee awareness – Track the percentage of employees who have received modern slavery awareness training or other ethical training.

Policy and procedure review:

We regularly review our policies and procedures to ensure they are in line with current legislation and best practices related to modern slavery. We also engage with industry associations and organizations to share best practices and promote ethical practices in our industry.

Risk management and continuous improvement:

We have established a risk management process to identify, assess, and mitigate the risk of modern slavery in our business and supply chains. We conduct regular risk assessments and due diligence on our suppliers and monitor their compliance with our ethical standards. We are committed to ongoing improvement in our efforts to prevent modern slavery and will continue to monitor and evaluate our practices to ensure we meet our obligations under applicable laws and regulations.
KPI: Risk assessment results – Track the results of risk assessments over time to determine the effectiveness of our measures to prevent modern slavery.

Corrective actions:

We take corrective actions in response to incidents or violations related to modern slavery. We investigate any reported incidents and take appropriate action to prevent them from happening again.
KPI: Number of reported incidents and corrective actions taken – Measure the number of reported incidents related to modern slavery and the number of corrective actions taken in response.

Conclusion

Mercans is committed to preventing and eliminating modern slavery from our business practices and supply chains. We recognize that this is an ongoing effort that requires collaboration and continuous improvement. By measuring these KPIs and other relevant metrics, we assess the effectiveness of our modern slavery prevention measures and take corrective actions if needed.
