Impact

  • The FWC’s 2026 Annual Wage Review decision took most employer commentators by surprise – the NMW rises 5.97% to AUD 26.44/hour ($1,004.90/week), the first time the NMW crosses $1,000/week. All modern award minimum rates rise 4.75% – affecting approximately 2.8 million award-reliant workers (21.1% of the workforce). The C14 entry-level rate (first 6 months of employment) rises to $978.10/week ($25.74/hour).
  • The decision begins the three-stage phase-out of the C13 classification, with affected employees receiving an additional structural adjustment beyond the headline 4.75%. Casual loading for award/agreement-free employees stays at 25%. New rates apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026 – for monthly-paid employees, that may mean the August pay run. High-income threshold and unfair-dismissal compensation cap also rise 1 July 2026 (figures published by FWC separately).
