Spain — Social Security: Assimilation of locally-hired staff at Spanish diplomatic missions/consulates as “officials” for coverage (EU/EEA/CH/UK)

A Resolution of 12 Aug 2025 declares that locally-hired personnel at Spanish diplomatic missions/consulates in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the UK (hired from 1 May 2010; with special dates for CH/EEA/UK) are assimilated to “funcionarios” solely for determining applicable social security legislation. This subjects the affected staff to Spanish Social Security from the date of publication; contracting bodies have 6 months to verify requirements and register eligible workers.
