UAE Payroll Outsourcing Alert

United Arab Emirates – Paternity Leave Introduced.

As the first Arab country, the government of the United Arab Emirate has introduced a five-day paternity leave for all private sector male employees.

Under the new law, private sector employers are required to provide their male employees five days of paid parental leave within six months from the birth of a child. Male public sector employees were already eligible for a three-day paternity leave. The government has not clarified if the new law will also increase the paternity leave for the public section employees to five days.

Currently, female public sector employees in the UAE are eligible for 90 days of paid maternity leave and female private sector employees are entitled to 45 days of maternity leave after 1 year of continuous service. The new law grants additional five days of paid maternity leave to the female employees.

Please note that the maternity leave rules may vary for certain UAE free zones.
