Senior Data Scientist

We are looking for a passionate Senior Data Scientist who would like to work with a top-notch technology stack in a friendly and cozy atmosphere for the global technology company developing innovative cloud-based Payroll, HR, and Recruitment software solutions.

In this role, you should be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. We also want to see a passion for machine learning and research.

A Senior Data Scientist engineer is part of a key team of Mercans Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, systems, and solutions in the Data Science and Machine Learning domain. These DS/ML technology products and solutions provide exceptional customer experiences while meeting the growing needs of the business.

The scope, responsibility, and accountability at this level include, with no or minimal supervision: provision of the hypothesis, conducting the DS/ML experiments (in the form of POC) to test the hypothesis; the data discovery and processing, data feature engineering, designing and applying the machine learning models; training models and validating the results against the defined metrics; deliver the ML insights as the results; fine-tune and productionize the ML models and pipelines.

This position is focused on managing design, development, implementation, and support activities of DS/ML components of the Mercans global payroll software HR Blizz (HRB), and other Mercans solutions, and their integration with third-party Human Capital Management (HCM), Workforce Management (WFM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), banking and other ancillary software solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Identify opportunities for data science to increase the organization’s efficiency and lift our core business.
  • Collaborate with the Product Team and Business to elaborate hypotheses.
  • Design the DS/ML pipeline flow and deliver the POC to validate the hypothesis, and provide ML predictions or insights.
  • Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes.
  • Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data.
  • Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns.
  • Data feature engineering.
  • Model design and/or selection.
  • Combine models through ensemble modeling.
  • Metrics definition, selection, and application.
  • Training process and validation.
  • Productionize ML and data pipelines.
  • Presenting information using data visualization techniques.
  • Mentor less senior data scientists or ML engineers in the team and raise the bar for technical knowledge.
  • Conduct the technical interviews for the new roles in the team.
  • Design the engineering, architecture, code and other standards to support the software development process in DS/ML domain.
  • Build elegant, robust, scalable, 99% available, and extensible systems.
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of standards, concepts, and principles of engineering to solve the practical needs of the business.
  • Identify performance issues and optimize solutions and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with other ML or Data engineers on design, best practices and conduct code reviews.
  • Work closely with our project team to effectively meet business requirements and determine feasible solutions.
  • Create professional technical documentation and present it for internal and external use.

Key Qualifications

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred.
  • Experience in data mining.
  • Analytical mind and business acumen.
  • Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra).
  • Problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Good team-player with the ability to prioritize independently.
  • 5+ Years of relevant experience in AI/ML.

Requirements

  • A proven track record as Senior Data Scientist for 3+ years
  • At least 4 years of experience in the following technologies: Spark, Tensorflow, Pytorch, Airflow, AWS SageMaker, AWS ML and general ecosystem.
  • Experience with statistical modeling and large-scale data analytics
  • Experience working with & writing clean and efficient code in Python, SQL
  • Experience with Deep Learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras and/or Pytorch)
  • Knowledge of Spark or similar big data tools and technology
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Apache Airflow)
  • Experience working with structured, and unstructured data and table design
  • Good documentation skills.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with LLMs and generative AI.
  • Experience in automation of HR or Finance domain.
