Senior Specialist – Configurations

The Senior Specialist – Configurations plays a critical role in the successful implementation and maintenance of client-specific backend configurations within Mercans’ global payroll and HCM platform, HR Blizz (HRB). The role involves translating complex client documentation into precise system configurations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and performance across various HRB modules. The Senior Specialist operates as a subject matter expert in system configuration and supports the Manager – Product Configurations in ensuring high-quality, timely delivery of configuration services. This position also includes mentoring junior team members and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless client experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Configuration Lifecycle Management

  • Take full ownership of the configuration lifecycle for assigned clients, from initial requirement analysis to go-live support.
  • Interpret client-specific documentation such as Wage Type Catalogue (WTC), Data Dictionary (DD), Blueprint Documents (BPD), and Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs) to design and implement configurations in HRB.

Documentation Analysis & Clarification:

  • Review all input documentation for completeness, coherence, and alignment with HRB capabilities.
  • Identify gaps, contradictions, or ambiguities and liaise with internal teams or clients to clarify and refine requirements.

Wage Type & Formula Configuration:

  • Configure wage types in compliance with client and country-specific tax, labor, and social security regulations.
  • Build and test formulas for calculated wage types using the HRB formula engine, ensuring accuracy and alignment with statutory and client requirements.

System Parameter & Module Configuration:

  • Configure HRB system parameters and modules (e.g., Payroll Admin Console, Time & Attendance, Leave Management, Benefits) based on validated client needs.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops with internal and client stakeholders to gather
    requirements and suggest optimization strategies.

Gap Identification & Enhancement Proposals:

  • Detect and document functionality gaps between HRB’s standard offering and client requirements.
  • Propose feasible automation or system enhancement suggestions to the Manager – Product Configurations for review and implementation planning.

Testing & Quality Assurance:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive unit tests for configured elements to ensure expected system behavior and client satisfaction.
  • Validate configuration accuracy in coordination with the QA team, ensuring zero-defect delivery standards.

Issue Resolution & Root Cause Analysis:

  • Investigate configuration-related issues and conduct detailed root cause analysis.
  • Rectify issues and communicate patterns or systemic errors to the QA Team Lead for continuous improvement.

Documentation & Knowledge Management:

  • Maintain complete and organized configuration documentation for every project, including setup steps, custom formulas, testing protocols, and client communications.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of standard operating procedures, configuration manuals, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Guide and support junior configuration specialists, providing technical advice, peer reviews, and coaching as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Implementation, QA, Product, and Support to ensure cohesive service delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll, HCM, or WFM platform configuration and implementation.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of HTML, XML, and MS SQL.
  • Excel Proficiency: Expertise in Excel, including complex formula creation and data modeling, is mandatory.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze documentation and configuration issues to determine effective and efficient solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with global teams and clients.
  • Detail Orientation: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in system configuration and documentation practices
