Global Compliance Manager

The Global Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and execution of payroll tax compliance functions across all regions where the company’s software is deployed. This includes ensuring the company’s products meet the legal and regulatory requirements of each jurisdiction, keeping up with changing legislation, and implementing best practices for compliance in the payroll process.

This role oversees and ensures that the Company’s software solutions and internal processes comply with all relevant tax regulations. This role is critical in ensuring our products deliver accurate, reliable, and legally compliant payroll calculations and tax solutions for our clients.

Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance Oversight:

  • Develop a vision and strategy for creating innovative and scalable payroll tax compliance processes that reduce reliance on internal human resources and leverage external resources, as well as the latest technologies i.e., AI, ML, etc,. to execute the global payroll tax compliance strategy in support of the company’s business.
  • Develop and implement strategies, tools, and processes for collecting, analyzing, documenting, and implementing existing and new payroll-related regulations, including statutory filings and payment processes.
  • Ensure that all relevant internal and external stakeholders have access to the documentation and information required for the implementation of the regulations and that the regulations have been correctly implemented and configured within the company’s software.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in payroll tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements at local, state, federal, and international levels.
  • Ensure the company’s payroll software is consistently updated to reflect accurate tax compliance.
  • Validate tax calculations and reporting functionality within the software to ensure accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Develop and execute a roadmap for maintaining existing and introducing new regulations on the company’s software. Ensure that the roadmap is implemented based on the company’s business priorities and following the agreed-upon timelines.

Risk Management and Analysis:

  • Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments to ensure robust tax compliance measures are in place.

Collaboration with Product Development:

  • Partner with the product teams to incorporate tax compliance requirements into software design, updates, and enhancements.
  • Ensure that the company’s software supports scalable and efficient setup and maintenance of the regulations using user-friendly and innovative approaches.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on payroll tax compliance, advising engineering and development teams.
  • Identify opportunities and implement the related product improvements for monetizing the internal compliance know-how through the company’s software.
  • Identify the required compliance and regulations related to product improvements for ensuring that the company’s software products are SaaS ready and market competitive.
  • Ensure that the company’s software supports engaging third-party compliance partners for the configuration and maintenance of the regulations within the software.

Statutory Integrations:

  • Identify and document the required integrations with the statutory authorities and other third parties in order to deliver market-competitive SaaS services.
  • Implement the identified integrations within the company’s software and ensure that the solutions are aligned with the company’s product strategies.

Audits and Reporting:

  • Conduct internal audits to verify compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare detailed compliance reports and ensure accurate documentation of tax-related activities.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory agencies as required.

Stakeholder Education and Support:

  • Develop internal and external stakeholder education and support processes that enable the stakeholders to ensure compliance with the applicable statutory regulations.
  • Provide tax compliance training to internal teams and educate clients on regulatory requirements when necessary.
  • Implement processes for resolving tax-related queries and concerns from stakeholders within the established SLAs.
  • Implement leading and innovative knowledge management processes and systems that enable efficient regulations-related knowledge management and transfer to the internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement scalable and efficient support processes for providing the internal and external stakeholders with the regulations-related support and advice.
  • Support the Business Development team with compliance-related subject matter expertise.

Policy Development:

  • Develop and maintain company policies related to payroll tax compliance.
  • Ensure all policies align with evolving tax laws and industry best practices.

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Provide strategic leadership to the compliance team and ensure a high level of performance of the organization.
  • Partner with the other teams in the company to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and drive revenue growth.
  • Develop and execute an industry-leading compliance function vision and strategy.
  • Prepare and present regular compliance reports to senior management, including updates on regulatory changes, audit outcomes, and potential areas of concern.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in payroll tax compliance, regulatory compliance, or a similar role within the payroll or software industry.
  • Ability to analyze, document, and communicate/present complex tax concepts and payroll calculations to the internal and external stakeholders in English.
  • Prior experience in advanced project management processes and methodologies i.e. Agile, Waterfall, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of payroll tax laws, reporting requirements, and tax compliance frameworks.
  • 3+ years of experience in leading compliance teams of at least 5 members in the payroll outsourcing or payroll software companies.
  • Proven experience working with tax authorities and managing audits.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with payroll software systems and tax calculation engines is highly desirable.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional, CPA, or similar) are a plus.
